Tomorrow-makers: Growing global citizens

It can sometimes feel like the planet we’re bequeathing to our children is broken beyond repair, but when we see the passion and capability of kids that work with Crossroads, it fills us with hope. The next generation of changemakers is out there, and Crossroads is partnering with them in all kinds of creative ways. In 2015-16 we saw schools running fundraisers and collection drives, students doing life-changing summer internships, classes inspired by our poverty simulations and children as young as 6 coming to us with their ideas on how to make a difference.

Secondary students at Renaissance College HK stepped into the shoes of refugees at our Refugee Run X-perience in December 2015.

At a staff develpment day, faculty at Concordia International School, Shanghai, workshop ways to integrate poverty and development issues into the school curriculum, led by a Crossroads team.

After taking part in one of our x-periences, Japanese International School’s 4th graders held a bake sale, raising more than $1,000 for Crossroads’ work!

Kids4Kids again proved that kids can make a difference, with their 2016 Sharing for a Cause student-led campaign, collecting laptops, stationery and tablets for Crossroads to distribute.

Six schools around Hong Kong joined forces to collect toys, clothes and funding for a shipment to Moldova, one of Europe’s poorest nations.

UK schools offered uniforms and stationery through our Global Hand service, which are now in use at a Nigerian school.

Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College students explored urban poverty issues in our Struggle for Survival x-perience in August 2016.

Diocesan Girls’ School primary students explored the complex web of poverty in June 2016 with our ‘Village of Solutions’ simulation x-perience.

Accounts intern Bonnie, a HK university student, joined 53 other energetic young adults in our 2016 summer intern programme.
