What is the Trail of World Need?

Our world is precious, but it is not okay: war, refugees, poverty, modern day slavery, natural disasters…

Sometimes big issues make us feel too small to make a difference. But we are not too small. Every one of us can do something to help!

The Trail of World Need is a family-friendly, interactive journey through issues like poverty, refugees and modern-day slavery. Set inside a series of shipping containers at Crossroads Village, the trail helps families explore these big topics together and brainstorm how they can help others in need.

How does it work?

Each installation helps you step inside a different world issue:

Displacement: The sights and sounds of a bleak refugee camp reflect many camps currently active today.

Education: School takes place outdoors under a tree in this display, reflecting many community schools in rural areas where furniture, supplies and teachers are scarce.

Healthcare: A bare village hospital shows the desperate lack of resources and equipment needed to properly care for people’s health in many developing nations.

Energy: How does lack of energy access keep people trapped in poverty? This installation helps explore challenges facing the millions living without electricity.

Poverty: The sights and smells of life on a trash heap helps participants reflect on the indignities and desperation of those in extreme poverty.

Slavery: A walk-through brick kiln gives a taste of the horrors of slavery in the brick kiln industry and many others.

As you travel through the Trail, a designated group leader reads from the trail guidebook, with activities and reflection questions to help the group engage with what they’re experiencing. At the end of each section, decide on what you might want to do to make a difference by chopping the page in your booklet!

After doing the Trail, your group can gather in a dedicated reflection space to discuss together about how you can use who you are and what you have to impact the issues you’ve just experienced.
