As the recent Typhoon Hato rose to a signal 10, many residents of the fishing village Tai O were flooded and required evacuation. The community poured in to help with the clean-up but over 500 residents lost many essential household items.

Crossroads is currently working with the Home Affairs Office, YWCA, the Neigbourhood Advice-Action Council, the Tai O District Council, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Tai O Residents’ Right Concern Group and victims to help coordinate a response.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

a) Give goods: The Tai O District Council has currently established a verified list of needed items. The YWCA and the NAAC are responsible for monitoring this registration. Crossroads is seeking to meet these needs from our existing stock but we are looking for donor support for items that we do not have in enough supply. These are listed below.

  • Fridges (150 needed)
  • Washing machines (100 needed)
  • TVs (10 needed)
  • LPG gas cookers (33 needed) Donated!
  • Rice Cooker (25 needed) Donated!
  • Beds (61 needed) Donated!

Email us if you are interested in helping in this way.

b) Give time: We will have more information as the coordination efforts progress but we foresee that the community of Tai O will be in need of willing and able bodies that can help deliver and install the relief items. They will be particularly in need of those that are licenced and able to install any of the electrical or gas related items above. Should your company want to get some of your employees involved, we can help coordinate with those in Tai O. Email us if you are interested in helping in this way.

c) Give money: To donate money towards Crossroads’ Typhoon Hato disaster relief efforts, please click here to make an online donation. The funds will be used for the purchase of needed items and logistics costs associated with delivering them. For other payment methods, click here and specify ‘Typhoon Hato relief fund’ in your references.
