Support for vulnerable children, youth and women’s groups
This shipment was the third sent to our partners in The Gambia, with projects in education and development that target young people in rural areas who are at risk of leaving home and trying to make a life in the city. There is support for families and counselling for young people and children which can make a huge difference to the disadvantaged in the area, as well as the practical help to address their material needs. In addition, support for women’s groups strengthens family bonds.
“One of the remarkable impacts that this shipment has made is that it has helped us to keep our promises and hopes that we gave to our beneficiaries. We always say that ‘Change is possible’ but it can only come when there are some means of surviving it. The outstanding among all is the provision of the shoes and the rolls of clothing that were available to women and children.”

One of their partners has a project called “Wear my Shoes” which had been waiting for suitable shoes, and they were thrilled that the shipment did indeed contain shoes, exactly what they needed.
Textiles, shoes, school furniture, towels, toys, all were gratefully received by local communities. There were some laptop computers for the project staff who were able to expand their knowledge of technology and use laptops in administrative work. There were 8 bicycles and some 170 households received useful items including kitchenware and pillows. The staff estimate that nearly 1600 children and 2500 youth and adults have benefitted in some way from the shipment.
We’re grateful to all who contributed to this shipment, helping invest in vulnerable young lives in The Gambia.
