Fighting for the Future

In Cameroon, more than a third of the population live in under $2.15 USD per day. Every day is a fight to make it to the next one. A stark contrast to its abundant natural beauty and natural resources, Cameroon suffers from poor infrastructure, internal conflicts and incursions from outside the country. Many internally displaced people are trying to find safe areas where they can rebuild their lives.

Determined to rise up from desolation, our partners are giving their all to find long-term, innovative solutions. They are loved in their community for their many charitable projects, including establishing Cameroon’s first school for people with disabilities, providing sponsorship to internally displaced children, providing specialist doctors for optometry, and supporting education and research in sustainable agriculture.

This has saved us well over 30 million CFA Francs. But I think the emotional cost and psychological cost is also very important. The population receiving the goods really appreciated this gesture.” – NGO Director

Here are a few of the ways in which the goods sent have helped people in rural Cameroon:

  • School chairs and tables, so that more children may now actually sit down in class
  • The cupboards helped organise books and teaching material
  • The library received more books!
  • Teachers received more didactic material
  • Children’s clothes for students who didn’t have much
  • They even received an official school car to support student pick up, equipment transport, and outreach
  • Gifts were able to be given to hundreds of children during their youth week festivities.

Cameroon is in the west Central Africa region, with natural features including beaches, deserts, mountains, rainforests, and savannas.

Since 2017, tensions between English- and French-speaking populations have escalated into full-scale civil war.  There has been widespread destruction of life and infrastructure particularly in the minority Anglophone regions, with many internally displaced people trying to find safe areas where they can rebuild their lives.
