Expanding opportunities

From humble beginnings simply providing clothing and household items to the rural poor and refugees in northern Uganda, our partners expanded their work to provide bursaries for refugee and AIDS orphans to attend school.  Their next step was to establish a new school, complete with boarding facilities for those with no homes.  The school now provides education for more than 500 children, and with the boost provided by this shipment the principal expects to open 100 more places in the coming school year

“We would never ever think of having money for these items in the school’s budget.” NGO director

As well as furniture and bedding, books and stationery, toys and teaching aids, this shipment also included goods for distribution among local communities, most of whom live in dire poverty.
As well as providing immediate relief to those most in need, it also opened doors for our partners to listen to the concerns of local leaders and discuss how best to expand the scope of their projects in the fields of health care and vocational skills training.

Above: Every student in the school received their own toy and stationery items.  Provision of stationery and clothing has greatly reduced the number of children dropping out of school, the director reported.

Above: Basic as this accommodation is, the school dormitory is “home” for more than 150 orphans who would otherwise be homeless, subject to trafficking and exploitation.  They were delighted to receive fresh, colourful sheets and blankets from this shipment.

Above: New furniture and equipment have added both to the functionality and dignity of the school director’s office.

The container in which the shipment was sent was donated to our partners.  It is being used as the school library.
