Why do we hold this event?
The old proverb says, “I cannot understand a man until I have walked a mile in his shoes.” We invite participants to spend 24 hours ‘in the shoes’ of those who battle to survive today’s global challenges. It is a chance, as our slogan puts it, to ‘spend a day the way billions spend a lifetime.’
We hold this event, therefore, to represent those we serve and the challenges they face.
Corporate and NGO leaders have expressed weariness with speeches on global challenges, and found an ‘experience’ of this lifestyle, even in simulated form, far more powerful. As one CEO told us, this “takes it from hearing to being.” The dialogue in our debrief is often enlightening as leaders in different sectors discuss ways to engage their core strengths in global strategies.
When will it happen?
Each event starts at 5pm on the Friday. It finishes 24 hours later, at 5pm on the Saturday.
The next Global Survivor event will be held on 3rd – 4th March, 2023.

Crossroads Village, 2 Castle Peak Road, Gold Coast, Tuen Mun
What can I bring?
In order to identify as much as possible with those who dwell in slums, participants are recommended to wear the following:
- 1 x shirt
- 1 x pair of shorts or long pants
- 1 x jacket/windbreaker
- 1 x pair of outdoor shoes
Feminine hygiene products and medication should be brought, as needed.
Padlocked lockers will be available to store any other items you bring.
To enter into the experience more fully, we suggest mobile phones be stored in the lockers.

Sponsorship
Global Survivor participants are sponsored for their efforts. Often, a company provides this sponsorship by raising funds for its representative. There is no set sponsorship target, but in previous years, individuals have raised between HK$20,000 to over HK$150,000! Every dollar helps.
