For over 20 years, our partners in Sierra Leone have been supporting communities in the region and helping them to overcome the challenges they face in a united way. One of their flagship projects is a series of educational programmes which teach vocational and entrepreneurial skills to children and young women, empowering them to be self-reliant. As well as this, our partners assist in the running of health centres, particularly focussing on supporting those with disabilities. Many disabled people in the region lack access to the basic facilities and equipment that they need to fully engage in the community, and our partners are working to change that.
“The most significant impacts have been the improvement of life for children who now have the opportunity to play with toys and wear nice shoes, and for teachers who now have quality bags to put their teaching materials in” – NGO Director
The goods that were sent in this shipment have benefitted local communities in a number of ways, here are just a few examples:
- Wheelchairs have provided disabled people with improved daily mobility
- Computers have allowed the opening of a computer training centre to teach employment related skills
- Clothes, shoes and basic household necessities have provided some of the neediest families with the goods they need to improve their daily lives
(Above) Goods arrive at our partners’ offices ready for unloading and distribution.
(Above) Educational supplies, kits and toys were gratefully received by teachers and staff working with our partners’ projects for children, often desperately under-resourced.
(Above) Goods and toys distributed at a local school.
The goods that were provided have already had a profound impact on the lives of the beneficiaries who have received them, and they will continue to do so for many years to come. We are immensely grateful for all who contributed to this shipment, for their investment in the lives of vulnerable Sierra Leonean communities.
