"You saved us US$100,000!" commented the founder of a Romanian training institute. Since much need has resulted from the recent years of national turbulence, education plays a crucial role in enabling people to reconstruct their lives. Crossroads sent two 40' containers to help furnish 100 dormitory rooms. The load was packed with the assistance of 40 members of the US Navy.
Macedonia
During the Kosovo crisis, refugees fled to neighbouring countries and drained their already stretched welfare provision. With much of the international welfare support directed to the need in Kosovo, little remains to support the weakened infrastructure within neighbouring nations. To address this need, Crossroads sent four 40' containers with a consignment for Macedonian need groups as well as the Kosovar refugees mentioned above.
Chechnya, Western Russia
Following recent heavy fighting, many have been left without homes or refuge. Crossroads has prepared a 40' container of clothes, electrical goods, furniture and bedding.
Croatia
"Before the war 23,000 people were employed here," said one aid worker to a Crossroads director. "Today only 800 have jobs. At least 2,000 are living at the point of starvation." The man, a former soldier, now works with Agape Humanitarian Aid distributing food and aid to those he formerly fought. Crossroads sent a 40' container to this region.
