They Survived!
Hong Kong’s corporate leaders survive life under fire.
Soldiers burst in upon them, forcing their faces to the floor. Stumbling, at gunpoint, they picked their way through a smoke filled mine field, some luckier than others in escaping explosions. At border point, they faced threatening guards, demanding their Rollex watches, wedding rings and diamonds. Hours later, after battling the taunts of their ‘keepers’, they found themselves free but homeless. Weary and wounded, they took debris and constructed a shelter for the night.
No, this was not the nightmare scenario of a depressed people group in a remote land. It was the experience of Hong Kong corporate leaders placed, in simulated form, under the oppression that sentences many to a life of hopelessness.
And they made it. The CEO of KPMG, the Executive Director (Finance) of UBS, senior executives from BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs, Holiday Inn Golden Mile and Macquarie Capital Securities all battled their way through to survival. With them in the ordeal, was the head of UNHCR, staff from St Paul's Co-Educational College and other Hong Kong executives in an event which is not for the faint-hearted.
“Aside from getting married and having a baby boy, [Slum Survivor 2008] is probably the next most powerful experience I have ever had!” Marc van Eijck – UBS
“It was a life altering experience which I will not forget.” Kylie-Anne Richards – Macquarie Capital Securities
