Educating to alleviate poverty

Measuring just over 47 kilometres wide, the Gambia reigns as the smallest mainland country on the African continent and is a leader in peanut production, its main source of income.

Only one city exists in the country, causing many younger people to abandon their rural communities and flock to it.  This migration leaves farmlands increasingly neglected, causing economic instability and unemployment.  Crossroads’ shipment to the Gambia will equip education programmes, medical care, and vocational training.  It will also help furnish a larger vocational training centre as well as a secondary school and day care centre for children in a rural village.
